The ADM2582EBRWZ-REEL7 is a fully integrated signal and power isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver from Analog Devices. It combines a 3-channel iCoupler digital isolator, a three-state differential line driver, a differential input receiver, and an isoPower isolated DC-DC converter into a single 20-lead wide-body SOIC package. This integration eliminates the need for an external isolated DC-DC power supply, simplifying board design and reducing component count. The device operates from a single 3.3 V or 5 V supply on the logic side, with the isoPower converter generating the isolated bus-side supply internally. The transceiver supports data rates up to 16 Mbps for full-duplex operation, making it suitable for high-speed industrial communication protocols. The RS-485 bus pins feature +/-15 kV ESD protection, and the device includes fail-safe receiver inputs that guarantee a logic-high output when the bus is open or shorted.

The ADM2582EBRWZ-REEL7 integrates four key subsystems: (1) The isoPower DC-DC converter uses high-frequency switching elements and an internal transformer to transfer power from the logic side (VCC) to the isolated bus side (VISOIN/VISOOUT), providing the isolated supply for the RS-485 transceiver without external components. (2) The iCoupler isolation barrier provides three channels of galvanic isolation – two for the driver data and enable signals, and one for the receiver data return – using chip-scale transformer technology with >25 kV/us CMTI. (3) The RS-485 driver section is a differential line driver with active-high enable, compliant with TIA/EIA-485-A, capable of driving up to 256 nodes on the bus. Current limiting and thermal shutdown protect against fault conditions. (4) The receiver section features a differential input with fail-safe biasing that ensures a logic-high output when the bus is undriven, shorted, or open-circuited.
