The ADG1608BRUZ from Analog Devices is a monolithic CMOS analog multiplexer comprising eight single channels in a TSSOP-16 package. The device switches one of eight inputs to a common output as determined by 3-bit binary address lines A0, A1, and A2. An EN input enables or disables the device. The 4.5 Ohm typical on-resistance with 1 Ohm flatness ensures minimal signal distortion, achieving THD+N of 0.04%. The device operates from 3.3V to 16V single supply or +/-3.3V to +/-8V dual supply with 470mA continuous current handling. 3V logic-compatible inputs eliminate the need for a separate VL logic supply. Break-before-make switching prevents channel-to-channel shorting, and ultra-low power dissipation below 8nW makes the device ideal for battery-powered instruments.

The ADG1608BRUZ uses iCMOS technology combining high-voltage CMOS with low-voltage CMOS. (1) Switch Core: Each of the eight channels contains a CMOS transmission gate that conducts equally well in both directions when on. The transmission gate uses complementary N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs in parallel to minimize on-resistance variation across the analog input range, achieving 1 Ohm flatness. (2) Address Decoding: A 3-to-8 line decoder translates the A0-A2 address inputs into one-of-eight channel select signals. The EN input gates the decoder output, disabling all channels when low. (3) Break-Before-Make: A delay circuit ensures the previously selected channel turns off before the new channel turns on, preventing momentary channel-to-channel shorting. (4) Level Shifting: Internal level shifters translate the 3V logic-level address inputs to the supply-rail levels needed to drive the CMOS switches, eliminating the need for a VL supply.
