The AD7891AS-1 is an 8-channel, 12-bit high speed data acquisition system manufactured by Analog Devices. It contains an input multiplexer, on-chip track/hold amplifier, high-speed 12-bit ADC, 2.5 V reference, and high-speed interface. The device operates from a single 5 V supply and accepts bipolar analog input ranges of plus/minus 5 V and plus/minus 10 V (AD7891-1 variant). The parallel or serial interface structure is determined by the MODE pin, providing easy interfacing to modern microprocessors, microcontrollers, and digital signal processors.

The AD7891AS-1 operates as a complete data acquisition system. The analog input is selected by the multiplexer from 8 single-ended channels, each with overvoltage protection. The selected signal passes through the on-chip track/hold amplifier, which acquires the input during the tracking phase. Upon CONVST assertion, the track/hold enters hold mode and the 12-bit successive approximation ADC performs the conversion in 1.6 microseconds. The result is available through either the parallel or serial interface as selected by the MODE pin. An internal 2.5 V reference is provided for ratiometric conversion.
