The cermet material offers superior stability compared to carbon composition, with typical resistance change of less than 2% after 1000 hours at rated power. (2) Multiturn Mechanism: A worm-gear mechanism converts 12 full rotations of the adjustment screw into a linear sweep of the wiper across the resistive track. Each turn adjusts the resistance by approximately 1/12 of the total range, providing fine resolution for precise calibration. (3) Wiper: A precious metal alloy contact slides along the cermet track, with contact resistance typically less than 1% of total resistance. The wiper position determines the resistance between the wiper terminal and each end terminal. (4) Sealed Construction: An O-ring seal around the adjustment shaft prevents flux, moisture, and cleaning solvents from entering the resistive element chamber.
