Product Overview

The 1N4007 from onsemi is a general-purpose silicon rectifier diode rated at 1000V reverse voltage and 1A forward current. Part of the 1N400x series, it is the highest voltage variant and one of the most commonly used rectifier diodes in AC-to-DC power supplies, available in a DO-41 axial package.

The 1N4007 is a general-purpose silicon rectifier diode rated at 1000V reverse voltage and 1A average forward current. As the highest voltage member of the ubiquitous 1N400x series (1N4001 through 1N4007), it can be used as a universal replacement for any lower voltage variant. The DO-41 axial lead package is ideal for through-hole PCB assembly and point-to-point wiring. With a 30A surge current rating, it can handle the high inrush currents typical of power supply turn-on. The low forward voltage drop of 1.0V at full load current minimizes power dissipation in rectifier circuits.

The 1N4007 is a P-N junction silicon diode that conducts current in the forward direction (anode positive) and blocks current in the reverse direction. During the positive half-cycle of AC input, the diode is forward biased and conducts, charging the filter capacitor. During the negative half-cycle, the diode is reverse biased and blocks, preventing discharge of the capacitor back through the source. The 1000V reverse voltage rating provides ample margin for 240VAC rectification (peak of 340V). The relatively slow reverse recovery time of 2us is acceptable for 50/60Hz line frequency applications but makes it unsuitable for high-frequency switching circuits.
