The SGM8905YPMS10G/TR from SG Micro is a 3.3V half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver in a MSOP-10 package. The device supports data rates up to 10Mbps with +/-16kV IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge ESD protection on the bus pins. The extended -7V to +12V common-mode range provides robustness in noisy industrial environments. The receiver features 30mV hysteresis for noise immunity and open/short/idle fail-safe (output high when bus is undriven). Driver and receiver enable pins allow independent control of transmit and receive modes. The device operates from 3.0V to 3.6V with -40C to +125C industrial temperature range.

The SGM8905YPMS10G/TR implements an RS-485 half-duplex transceiver with ESD protection. (1) Driver: When DE is high, the differential driver amplifies the DI input and drives the A and B bus lines with RS-485 compliant voltage levels. The driver output is limited to +/-3.7V to protect against bus contention. (2) Receiver: When RE is low, the differential receiver compares the voltage between A and B. If VAB > 200mV, the output RO is high. If VAB < -200mV, RO is low. The 30mV hysteresis prevents output oscillation near the threshold. (3) Fail-Safe: When the bus is undriven (open, shorted, or idle), the receiver output defaults high, preventing false start bits in UART communication. (4) ESD: Integrated TVS structures on A and B pins absorb +/-16kV IEC contact discharge transients without external protection components.
