The MLX90132SLQ-AEA-000-SP from Melexis is a multi-protocol NFC/RFID reader transceiver IC in a QFN-32 package operating at 13.56MHz. The device supports ISO 14443 Type A and B, ISO 15693, and FeliCa protocols for universal contactless smart card and NFC tag reading. The integrated differential push-pull antenna driver eliminates the need for an external power amplifier, directly driving the antenna matching network. An on-chip envelope detector demodulates the tag response. The device communicates with the host via SPI or UART interface. Supply voltage range is 2.4V to 5.5V with power-down mode for battery-operated applications.

The MLX90132 integrates the complete analog front-end for an NFC/RFID reader. (1) Transmitter: The carrier generator produces a 13.56MHz sine wave that is amplitude-modulated according to the selected protocol (100% ASK for ISO 14443A, 10% ASK for ISO 14443B, etc.). The differential push-pull antenna driver amplifies the modulated carrier and drives the external antenna through a matching network. (2) Receiver: The tag modulates the carrier using load modulation. The antenna picks up the modulated signal, and the on-chip envelope detector extracts the subcarrier. The subcarrier is then digitally demodulated and decoded according to the protocol. (3) Protocol Handler: The internal state machine manages the anti-collision, selection, and data exchange sequences for each supported protocol. (4) Host Interface: The decoded data is transferred to the host MCU via SPI or UART, and the host sends commands to initiate transactions.
