The LM1971MX/NOPB from Texas Instruments is a CMOS digitally-controlled single-channel audio attenuator providing 62 dB attenuation in 1 dB steps via a 3-wire serial interface. With ultra-low 0.0008% THD, 115 dB dynamic range, and click-free transitions, it delivers audiophile-grade volume control. The mute function provides 102 dB attenuation. Overture series design operates from 4.5V to 12V supply.

The LM1971 uses a resistor ladder network with CMOS switches for precise attenuation in 1 dB steps. The 3-wire serial interface (data, clock, latch) loads the desired attenuation code. Zero-crossing detection synchronizes level changes to minimize audible artifacts. The mute function disconnects the input through a high-impedance path, providing over 100 dB isolation.
