The WJLXT971ALE.A4-857343 from Cortina Systems (originally Intel) is a single-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet PHY transceiver supporting 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 100BASE-FX. Features MII interface, auto-negotiation with parallel detection, JTAG boundary scan, and integrated LED drivers. The ALE variant provides extended temperature range (-40 to 85 C). Low 300mW power consumption with sleep mode.

Provides the physical layer between the MAC controller and the network medium. In 100BASE-TX mode, uses 4B/5B encoding with MLT-3 signaling. In 10BASE-T, Manchester encoding is used. 100BASE-FX is supported via LVPECL interface. Auto-negotiation determines link speed and duplex by exchanging FLP bursts. The MII interface transfers nibble-wide data between PHY and MAC at 25MHz (100Mbps) or 2.5MHz (10Mbps). Intel waveshaping technology reduces external EMI filter requirements.
