The TXS0102DQER from Texas Instruments is a 2-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator with automatic direction sensing that requires no direction-control pins. It translates between VCCA (1.65V-3.6V) and VCCB (2.3V-5.5V) logic domains, supporting push-pull signals at up to 24 Mbps and open-drain signals at up to 2 Mbps. Integrated 10 kOhm pull-up resistors facilitate open-drain bus connections such as I2C and SMBus. The Ioff circuit prevents damaging back-current when either supply is powered down, enabling use in hot-swap and partial-power-down applications.

The TXS0102DQER uses pass-transistor-based bidirectional translation. Each channel consists of an N-channel pass FET connecting the A-side and B-side I/O, with integrated 10 kOhm pull-up resistors on both sides. When one side drives low, the pass FET conducts and pulls the other side low. When both sides are released, the pull-ups restore the lines to their respective VCC levels. One-shot accelerator circuits briefly strengthen the pull-down during edge transitions for faster rise/fall times with open-drain signals. The auto-direction sensing is inherent: the pass FET conducts in both directions without needing to know which side is driving.
