The TPS543620RPYR from Texas Instruments is a 6A synchronous step-down DC/DC converter from the SWIFT (Switcher With Integrated FET Technology) family, featuring a wide 4V to 18V input range and an adjustable output from 0.5V to 5.5V. The device uses Advanced Current Mode (ACM) control with internal compensation, eliminating the need for external compensation components and simplifying design. The switching frequency can be selected from five options (500kHz, 750kHz, 1MHz, 1.5MHz, or 2.2MHz) via the FSEL pin configuration, allowing designers to optimize efficiency versus solution size without adding external frequency-setting resistors. The HotRod QFN package technology mounts the die with copper pillars directly to the leadframe, eliminating bond wire resistance and inductance for improved efficiency and lower EMI. The integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs deliver up to 6A continuous output current in a compact 2.5×3.0mm footprint. The device supports both forced PWM mode (for tight output regulation and constant frequency) and auto PFM/PWM mode (for high efficiency at light loads). A spread spectrum option modulates the switching frequency to reduce peak EMI emissions. Protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limit, output overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown. A power-good (PG) output indicates when the output is within regulation. The 0.5V +/-1% reference voltage enables very low output voltages for modern processors.
