The RT8279GSP is a high-efficiency step-down DC-DC converter from Richtek Technology featuring an integrated 110mOhm N-channel MOSFET capable of delivering up to 5A of continuous output current. The device operates from a 5.5V to 36V input range and produces an adjustable output voltage from 1.222V to 26V. Using fixed 500kHz switching frequency with current-mode control and internal compensation, it simplifies design by minimizing external component count while maintaining excellent transient response and stability.

The RT8279GSP employs a current-mode control architecture for its buck converter operation. **Power Stage**: The integrated 110mOhm N-channel MOSFET switches at 500kHz, charging and discharging the external inductor to transfer energy from input to output. An external bootstrap diode and capacitor drive the high-side switch. **Control Loop**: Current-mode control compares the inductor current ramp against the error amplifier output voltage. Internal Type-II compensation eliminates the need for external compensation components while ensuring stability across operating conditions. **Protection Subsystem**: Cycle-by-cycle current limiting protects against overloads. Thermal shutdown disables switching when junction temperature exceeds approximately 160C. **Soft-Start**: An internal soft-start circuit gradually ramps the reference voltage, limiting inrush current during startup.
