The RFPA2172TR13 from Qorvo is a high-power RF power amplifier designed specifically for 900 MHz ISM band applications. Based on GaAs HBT / InGaP technology, the device delivers high linear output power with excellent power-added efficiency, making it suitable for battery-powered and line-powered ISM transmitters. The amplifier features integrated 50 Ω input and output matching for ease of design, and is housed in a compact QFN surface-mount package for space-constrained radio modules.

The RFPA2172TR13 operates as a single-stage or multi-stage RF power amplifier: (1) Input Matching — the RF input signal at the operating frequency (868–928 MHz) is impedance-matched to 50 Ω via integrated matching networks; (2) Amplification — the GaAs HBT transistor amplifies the input RF signal, with the bias network setting the operating class (typically Class AB for linear amplification); (3) Output Matching — the amplified signal is delivered through an integrated output matching network to a 50 Ω antenna or subsequent stage; (4) Power Control — the bias voltage or enable pin controls the amplifier gain and output power level, allowing transmit power adjustment and power-saving sleep modes.
