Featuring 10-bit ADC (8 channels), dual comparators with programmable CVREF, and EUSART (LIN/RS-485/RS-232 with auto-baud/auto-wake) in an SOIC-14 package, it is ideal for cost-sensitive sensor nodes, smart appliances, and battery-powered instruments from 2.0V to 5.5V.

The PIC16F688-I/SL uses Microchip’s PIC16 mid-range 8-bit RISC architecture with 35 instructions and an 8-level hardware stack. Most instructions execute in a single cycle (200 ns at 20 MHz). The internal oscillator is factory-calibrated to ±1% and supports software-selectable frequencies from 8 MHz down to 125 kHz, enabling dynamic clock switching for power optimization. The nanoWatt technology achieves 50 nA standby current in Sleep mode. The dual comparators can be configured with an internal programmable voltage reference (CVREF) derived from VDD, eliminating external reference components. The EUSART supports full-duplex asynchronous communication with LIN 2.0/2.1 protocol support, auto-baud detection, and auto-wake on start bit for low-power serial communication. The 10-bit ADC uses a successive approximation register (SAR) with 8 multiplexed input channels. The Interrupt-on-Change feature on select pins enables efficient event-driven processing without polling.
