The Pulse Electronics PE-53634NLT is a SLIC series shielded toroidal power inductor with a nominal inductance of 50uH (OCL 72.9uH) and a maximum DC current rating of 2.6A. The toroidal core design provides excellent magnetic field containment, minimizing EMI radiation and coupling with nearby components. The shielded construction further enhances magnetic field confinement. With a low DC resistance of 133 mOhm maximum, the inductor achieves high efficiency in power conversion applications. The horizontal surface-mount toroidal package (17.78 x 17.02 x 9.91 mm) enables automated PCB assembly while providing the performance advantages of toroidal magnetics. The device operates from -40 to 130 degrees C, making it suitable for demanding industrial and automotive power supply applications.

The PE-53634NLT operates as an energy storage and filtering element in switch-mode power supplies. The toroidal core geometry provides a closed magnetic path with no air gap, resulting in low magnetic flux leakage and high inductance density. When current flows through the winding, energy is stored in the magnetic field of the toroidal core. During the switch-off period in a buck or boost converter, this stored energy is released to the load, smoothing the output current. The toroidal shape inherently contains the magnetic field within the core material, minimizing radiated EMI. The shielded construction adds an additional magnetic barrier for environments with sensitive nearby components. The low DCR (133 mOhm) minimizes copper losses, while the toroidal ferrite core material provides low core losses at typical SMPS switching frequencies. The self-resonant frequency of 1 MHz, determined by the parasitic capacitance between winding turns, sets the upper frequency limit for useful inductive operation.
