The MP1517DR-LF-Z is an 18V 2A boost LED driver from Monolithic Power in SOIC-8, operating at 1.2MHz with an integrated 2A N-channel MOSFET. It uses current-mode control optimized for constant-current LED driving: the FB pin senses the voltage across an external current-setting resistor (RSET) in series with the LED string, with ILED = 1.23V / RSET. The CTRL pin provides two dimming methods: DC voltage dimming (0.3-1.2V linearly adjusts the FB reference from 0V to 1.23V) and PWM dimming (pulse the CTRL pin at 100Hz-10kHz for duty-cycle-controlled brightness). The OS (Over-voltage Setting) pin sets the OVP threshold using an external resistor divider: if the LED string opens, the output voltage rises until OVP triggers, protecting the MOSFET from over-voltage breakdown. The 1.2MHz switching frequency keeps the inductor small (4.7uH typical). The COMP pin allows external compensation for various LED string configurations. Efficiency exceeds 90% at 12V output from a 5V input at 500mA load.
