The MAX3082ESA+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim) is a fail-safe, slew-rate-limited RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceiver with 1 driver and 1 receiver. Supporting 115 kbps data rate with reduced EMI, its 1/8 unit-load input impedance allows up to 256 transceivers on the bus. Fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when inputs are open or shorted. The ESA+T denotes the SOIC-8 industrial tape-and-reel version.

The MAX3082ESA+T from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a fail-safe, slew-rate-limited RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceiver with one driver and one receiver. Its 1/8 unit-load receiver input impedance allows up to 256 transceivers on a single bus, doubling the node count compared to 1/4 unit-load devices. The fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open or shorted, ensuring defined bus states in multi-drop networks. The slew-rate-limited driver minimizes EMI and reduces reflections from improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission up to 115 kbps.

The MAX3082ESA+T converts between TTL/CMOS logic levels and RS-485/RS-422 differential signal levels in half-duplex mode. The driver output stage is slew-rate limited to control the transition time, reducing high-frequency spectral content that causes EMI and reflections on long cables. The fail-safe receiver incorporates an internal bias network that pulls the differential inputs to a state that produces a logic-high output when the bus is open or shorted. The 1/8 unit-load is achieved with 96 kOhm receiver input impedance (vs. 12 kOhm standard), allowing 256 transceivers on the bus while maintaining the standard 120 Ohm termination. Driver and receiver enables (DE and RE) control bus access for half-duplex operation.
