The LTM8045IY#PBF from Analog Devices is a uModule DC/DC converter that can be configured as a SEPIC or inverting converter by simply grounding the appropriate output rail. In SEPIC configuration, the regulated output voltage can be above, below, or equal to the input voltage. The device integrates power devices, inductors, control circuitry, and passive components into a single 40-lead BGA package. Operating from 2.8V to 18V input, it delivers up to 700mA output current at +/-2.5V or 375mA at +/-15V. The switching frequency is selectable from 200kHz to 2MHz via an external resistor. Programmable soft-start and user-configurable UVLO provide additional design flexibility. Only input/output capacitors and small setting resistors are needed to complete the design.

The LTM8045IY#PBF operates as a current-mode controlled SEPIC or inverting converter with integrated magnetics. Key subsystems include: (1) Current-Mode PWM Controller – regulates the output voltage by comparing the error amplifier output with the switch current; (2) Integrated Power MOSFETs – both high-side and low-side switches are integrated; (3) Integrated Inductor – a custom power inductor is encapsulated within the BGA package; (4) Feedback Network – an external resistor divider sets the output voltage; (5) Configuration Logic – grounding VOUT+ configures inverting mode, grounding VOUT- configures SEPIC mode; (6) Soft-Start – an external capacitor programs the startup ramp rate.
