The L6203 is a DMOS full-bridge motor driver from ST in MULTIWATT-11, rated at 52V and 5A continuous (peak 5A). It integrates four N-channel DMOS power transistors in an H-bridge configuration, driven by internal charge-pump gate drivers. The charge pump (VCP pin with external capacitor) generates a voltage above VS to drive the high-side N-channel MOSFET gates, enabling 100% duty cycle operation. The IN1 and IN2 inputs control the bridge state: IN1=H/IN2=L drives current from OUT1 to OUT2; IN1=L/IN2=H reverses; IN1=IN2 drives both low (fast decay brake). PWM speed control is achieved by alternating between drive and brake states at 20-30kHz. The SENSE1 pin provides a current-sense output proportional to the bridge 1 current (ratio 1:4000 typical), enabling external current-limit circuitry. The RDS(on) of each MOSFET is 0.3Ohm typical, giving 0.6Ohm total bridge resistance. The EN pin enables/disables all outputs. Thermal shutdown at 150C protects the die. The MULTIWATT-11 package with exposed tab provides 2C/W thermal resistance on a heatsink, essential for dissipating the 15W conduction loss at 5A. The device supports step-direction driving for stepper motors when two L6203 are used (one per phase).
