The ISO1211DR is an isolated 24V to 60V digital input receiver from Texas Instruments, designed for digital input modules in industrial applications. It is compliant with IEC 61131-2 Types 1, 2, and 3, and can accept 9V to 300V DC and AC digital inputs. Unlike traditional optocoupler solutions with discrete current limiting, the ISO1211DR provides accurate current limiting in a simple, low-power solution, enabling compact and high-density I/O module designs. It requires no field-side power supply and can be configured as source or sink input.

The ISO1211DR operates through three key subsystems: (1) Isolation Barrier: A capacitive isolation barrier provides 2500 VRMS basic insulation with ±70 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, separating the field side (high voltage) from the logic side (low voltage). (2) Current Limiting: An external sense resistor (RSENSE) sets the input current threshold, providing precise current limiting that meets IEC 61131-2 requirements while minimizing power dissipation compared to discrete resistor solutions. (3) Level Detection: The device detects when the input voltage exceeds the threshold and communicates the logic state across the isolation barrier to the OUT pin with 140ns typical propagation delay, supporting data rates up to 4 Mbps.
