The IL300-E from Vishay is a high-precision linear optocoupler designed for analog signal isolation in medical, industrial, and power supply applications. Unlike digital optocouplers, the IL300-E uses a matched pair of photodiodes: one provides feedback to stabilize the LED drive (compensating for aging and temperature drift), while the second delivers the isolated output signal. This architecture achieves ±0.01% linearity and ±0.005%/°C CTR stability with 5300V RMS isolation, making it the gold standard for precision isolation amplifiers.

The IL300-E contains an infrared LED optically coupled to two matched PIN photodiodes. The input-side photodiode (D1) monitors the LED output and provides feedback to a servo amplifier that drives the LED current, maintaining constant optical flux regardless of LED aging or temperature changes. The output-side photodiode (D2) receives the same optical flux (proportional to LED current) and generates a photocurrent that is an accurate, linear replica of the input signal. The close matching between D1 and D2 ensures that the output current precisely tracks the input, achieving ±0.01% linearity. The 5300V RMS isolation is provided by the optically transparent insulator between LED and photodiodes.
