The BNX028-01L from Murata is a board-level EMI filter combining a ferrite bead element and a 0.1uF capacitor in a single compact 5.5 x 4.3 x 2.8mm block package. The 01L suffix indicates the specific capacitance and voltage rating. With 6A rated current, 25VDC voltage rating, and only 8mOhm maximum DC resistance, it provides effective broad-band noise suppression from 1MHz to 1GHz on DC power lines without significant voltage drop. The integrated design replaces discrete ferrite bead + capacitor combinations, reducing component count and improving consistency.

The BNX028-01L operates through two complementary noise suppression mechanisms: (1) Ferrite Bead Element: The series ferrite bead presents high impedance to high-frequency noise (200 Ohm at 100MHz) while passing DC and low-frequency signals with minimal resistance (8mOhm max). The ferrite material converts high-frequency noise energy into heat through magnetic hysteresis losses. (2) Shunt Capacitor: The integrated 0.1uF capacitor provides a low-impedance path to ground for high-frequency noise that passes through the ferrite element, forming an LC low-pass filter network. The combination of series impedance (ferrite) and shunt bypass (capacitor) creates a 2-stage EMI filter that achieves higher attenuation than either element alone, with broad-band effectiveness from 1MHz to 1GHz.
