ADM3488ARZ-REEL7

The ADM3488ARZ-REEL7 from Analog Devices is a 3.3V low-power RS-485/RS-422 transceiver featuring ±15kV ESD protection on all bus pins. As a full-duplex device, it provides separate differential driver outputs and receiver inputs with independent enable controls. The slew-rate-limited driver output minimizes EMI and eliminates reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free transmission at data rates up to 250kbps. With 12kOhm receiver input impedance, up to 32 transceivers can share a single bus. The device includes thermal shutdown and short-circuit protection for robust operation in harsh industrial environments.

The ADM3488E converts between single-ended TTL/CMOS logic levels and differential RS-485/RS-422 signals. The driver section generates differential outputs compliant with TIA/EIA RS-485 standards, while the receiver converts differential bus signals back to single-ended logic. The slew-rate-limited driver output transitions gradually to reduce high-frequency spectral content that causes EMI and cable reflections. When disabled or powered off, outputs enter high-impedance state to avoid bus loading. The fail-safe receiver ensures a logic-high output when inputs are floating or the bus is open-circuited. The ±15kV ESD protection uses transient voltage suppression structures on the bus pins.
