The CLRC66303HNE from NXP Semiconductors is a high-performance multi-protocol NFC frontend IC designed for contactless communication at 13.56 MHz. It supports ISO/IEC 14443 A/B (including MIFARE and NTAG), FeliCa, and ISO/IEC 15693 protocols. The device integrates a complete NFC transceiver with antenna driver, receiver, and demodulator, requiring only an external antenna and matching circuit. Three host interface options (SPI, I2C, UART) provide flexibility for different MCU platforms. The 512-byte FIFO buffer enables efficient data transfer between the host and the NFC frontend. Low power card detection mode minimizes standby power consumption in battery-operated devices.

The CLRC66303HNE operates as a 13.56 MHz RFID/NFC reader frontend. The transmitter generates an RF carrier at 13.56 MHz that is amplified by the integrated antenna driver and radiated through the external antenna. When a passive tag enters the electromagnetic field, the tag modulates the carrier using load modulation. The CLRC66303HNE receiver detects this modulation through the same antenna and demodulates the signal. The integrated correlator and framing logic handle protocol-specific signal processing including anti-collision, CRC generation/verification, and data framing for ISO 14443 A/B, FeliCa, and ISO 15693. For MIFARE authentication, a dedicated crypto engine handles the mutual authentication handshake. The host MCU communicates with the CLRC663 via SPI, I2C, or UART, sending commands and reading status and data through the 512-byte FIFO.
