Achieving 10µF in a 1206 footprint requires very thin dielectric layers with many electrode layers, making this a high-capacitance-density part. The 16V rating is suitable for 1.0V to 12V power rails commonly found in digital electronics. This capacitor is widely used as a local decoupling capacitor for FPGAs, processors, and other high-current ICs where multiple 10µF capacitors are distributed across the board to provide low impedance at the IC power pins.

The C1206C106K4RACTU operates as a high-capacitance-density X7R MLCC. The 10µF in 1206 is achieved using very thin X7R dielectric layers (typically 3-5µm) with 200-400+ electrode layers stacked in the 1.0-1.3mm thick package. The thin dielectric results in a significant voltage coefficient: at 12V applied (75% of rated voltage), the effective capacitance may be only 40-60% of the nominal 10µF value. At 3.3V operating, the effective capacitance is typically 70-85% of nominal. The high layer count also increases the equivalent series inductance (ESL) compared to lower-capacitance parts, so parallel combination with smaller MLCCs (0.1µF, 0.01µF) is recommended for broadband decoupling.
