The STUSB4500QTR from STMicroelectronics is a standalone USB Power Delivery controller designed for power sinking devices. It can negotiate PD contracts up to 100W (20V/5A) without requiring an MCU, using auto-run mode with proprietary algorithms. PDO profiles are stored in integrated non-volatile memory and support up to 3 configurable profiles. The device handles dead battery conditions, enabling startup from a fully discharged state. Its 20V technology provides robust protection against CC pin short-circuits to VBUS up to 22V and supports VBUS pins directly connected to the power path up to 28V.

The STUSB4500QTR autonomously manages USB PD negotiation as a sink device. Upon attachment, it detects CC connection to determine cable orientation. In auto-run mode, it initiates PD communication to request power based on pre-configured PDO profiles stored in NVM. The integrated VBUS discharge paths and gate drivers control external PMOS switches to manage the power path. The device monitors VBUS voltage through integrated dividers and provides over-voltage protection. Dead battery mode allows operation from VBUS power when the system battery is fully depleted.
