The STMPS2141STR from STMicroelectronics is an enhanced single-channel power distribution switch designed for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short circuits are likely to be encountered. The device incorporates a 90mOhm N-channel MOSFET high-side switch controlled by an active-low logic enable input. It supports continuous output current up to 500mA with a current limit of 800mA. When an overcurrent condition is detected, the device switches into a constant-current mode to protect the system. A fault flag output signals overcurrent conditions to the host controller. Additional protection features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO), thermal shutdown with automatic recovery, and reverse current blocking. The device is UL recognized (File E354278). The STMPS2141STR operates from 2.7V to 5.5V in a compact SOT-23-5 package rated for -40 to 125 C operation.

The STMPS2141STR operates as a high-side power switch with integrated protection. Key subsystems include: (1) N-Channel MOSFET Switch – the main switching element with 90mOhm on-resistance, controlled by the enable input via a charge pump gate driver; (2) Charge Pump – generates the gate voltage above the supply rail to fully enhance the N-channel MOSFET for low RDS(ON); (3) Current Limiting – monitors load current and transitions to constant-current mode when the threshold (800mA) is exceeded; (4) Thermal Protection – monitors junction temperature and shuts down the switch when exceeding safe limits, with automatic recovery upon cooling; (5) UVLO – ensures the switch remains off until the supply voltage is above the minimum operating threshold; (6) Fault Logic – drives an open-drain fault output when overcurrent or thermal conditions are detected.
