The STM32L051K8U6 from STMicroelectronics is an ultra-low-power microcontroller based on the ARM Cortex-M0+ core, designed for battery-powered and energy-harvesting applications. Operating at up to 32MHz, it features 64KB of Flash and 8KB of SRAM. The device achieves an exceptionally low standby current of 0.27uA with RTC running, enabling years of battery life in always-on applications. The STM32L051K8U6 is based on the ARM Cortex-M0+ core optimized for ultra-low-power operation. Key subsystems include: (1) Cortex-M0+ Core – a 2-stage pipeline processor executing Thumb instruction set with single-cycle multiplier, optimized for low gate count and power; (2) Low-Power Modes – Run, Sleep, Low-Power Run (further reduced clock), Low-Power Sleep, Stop (with or without RTC), and Standby (0.27uA with RTC); (3) Voltage Regulator – an internal LDO with multiple range settings optimizes power consumption based on clock frequency; (4) 12-bit ADC – successive approximation ADC with autonomous operation in Stop mode; (5) Touch Sensing – capacitive touch acquisition using the ADC with hardware support for touch detection; (6) Clock System – multiple clock sources including 32kHz LSE, 16MHz HSI, and 37kHz LSI for flexible power management.
