The ST3485ECDR from STMicroelectronics is a 3.3V RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with +/-15kV ESD protection and 12Mbps data rate. Half-duplex with industry-standard 75176 pinout, supports up to 64 nodes on the bus. Features current limiting, thermal shutdown, and 1uA shutdown current. Commercial temperature range (0-70 C) in SO-8 package.

The driver converts single-ended TX data to differential signals on the A/B bus lines. The receiver converts differential bus signals back to single-ended RX data. DE (driver enable) and RE (receiver enable) control half-duplex direction. When DE=low and RE=high, the device enters 1uA shutdown mode. The driver includes current limiting and thermal shutdown to protect against bus faults. High-impedance receiver output is guaranteed when inputs are floating.
