The RT9728BHGQW from Richtek is a 120mΩ P-MOSFET high-side power switch with adjustable current limiting in WDFN-6 (2x2mm). Supports 75mA to 1.8A programmable current limit via external RILIM resistor with ±10% accuracy. 2.5-5.5V input range, 120µA quiescent current, built-in soft-start, fault flag output, and 15kV ESD protection. HGQW suffix denotes WDFN-6 2x2mm tape-and-reel. Ideal for USB port power distribution and hot-plug applications.

The RT9728B uses an internal P-channel MOSFET as the high-side switch between VIN and VOUT. The current limit is set by connecting an external resistor (RILIM) from the ILIM pin to ground. The internal current sense circuit mirrors a fraction of the load current and compares it against the ILIM reference. When the load current exceeds the set threshold, the switch enters constant-current mode, limiting the output current and asserting the FAULT flag (open-drain, active low). The built-in soft-start circuit ramps the output voltage gradually to limit inrush current into capacitive loads. UVLO disables the switch when VIN drops below 2.2V. Thermal shutdown protects the device at approximately 140°C junction temperature.
