The PIC16F887T-I/PT is an 8-bit CMOS Flash microcontroller from Microchip Technology based on the powerful PIC architecture with only 35 single-word instructions. It features 14KB program memory, 368 bytes RAM, 256 bytes data EEPROM, 35 I/O pins, and a rich peripheral set including a 14-channel 10-bit ADC, EUSART with auto-baud detect, MSSP (SPI/I2C), two comparators, and CCP/ECCP modules with auto-shutdown and PWM steering. The device operates from 2.0V to 5.5V, supports In-Circuit Serial Programming and Debug, and includes Ultra Low-Power Wake-up and fail-safe clock monitoring features.

The PIC16F887 uses Microchip’s modified Harvard architecture with separate program and data memory buses. The 14-bit wide instruction set enables single-word, single-cycle execution for most instructions (except branches which take two cycles). The program counter addresses 14KB of Flash memory organized as 8K x 14-bit words. The ALU performs 8-bit arithmetic and logical operations with a working register (W) accumulator. The MSSP module implements full SPI master/slave and I2C master/slave/multi-master protocols. The EUSART supports asynchronous serial communication with auto-baud detection and address detection for multi-drop networks. The ECCP module provides enhanced PWM with auto-shutdown (immediate output disable on fault) and steering (redirecting PWM output to different pins). The ADC uses a successive approximation architecture with sample-and-hold.
