The NCV4274CST33T3G is an automotive-qualified 200mA low-dropout linear regulator from onsemi, providing a fixed 3.3V output from input voltages up to 40V. The NCV prefix confirms AEC-Q100 qualification and PPAP capability, making it suitable for production automotive applications. The device features ±2% output voltage accuracy over the full automotive temperature range, 60dB PSRR at 1kHz for clean power rails, and comprehensive protection against overcurrent, overtemperature, and reverse-polarity conditions (up to -42V). The enable pin allows power sequencing and reduces standby current to below 1µA when disabled. The SOT-223 package provides good thermal performance in compact footprints.

The NCV4274 is a PNP pass-transistor LDO that regulates the output voltage by controlling the base drive of a PNP power transistor. The feedback network compares a fraction of the output voltage against an internal bandgap reference. When the output drops below the target 3.3V, the error amplifier increases the PNP base current, allowing more current to flow from input to output. The low 80µA quiescent current is achieved by careful biasing of the control circuitry. The enable pin gates the internal bias; when EN is low, all internal circuits are disabled, reducing supply current to below 1µA. Overcurrent protection limits the PNP base drive when the output current exceeds approximately 400mA. Thermal shutdown activates at 175°C junction temperature, turning off the pass transistor to prevent damage. Reverse-polarity protection uses a parasitic body diode clamp to safely handle negative input voltages up to -42V.

  • Automotive ECU 3.3V Supply: Power the 3.3V digital rail of an automotive ECU directly from the 12V battery bus. The 40V maximum input survives load-dump transients (up to 40V) without external transient suppression. The enable pin connects to the ECU’s ignition signal for power sequencing. A single 1µF ceramic capacitor on the output ensures stability.
  • CAN Transceiver Power: Supply a 3.3V CAN transceiver from the vehicle’s 12V bus. The 60dB PSRR rejects alternator ripple and switching noise from other ECUs, providing a clean supply for the transceiver’s reference voltage. Reverse-polarity protection handles battery connection faults.
