The MMSZ5235B-7-F is a 6.8V 500mW Zener diode in a SOD-123 surface-mount package. In the reverse breakdown region, the Zener diode maintains a nearly constant voltage across its terminals (6.8V nominal) while allowing current to flow in the reverse direction. This voltage regulation is achieved through the avalanche breakdown mechanism at 6.8V. When reverse biased above the Zener voltage, current increases rapidly while voltage remains relatively stable. The dynamic impedance (Zzt) of typically 15 Ohms determines the regulation quality: lower impedance means better voltage stability under load variations. The device is used with a series current-limiting resistor to establish the operating point. The B suffix indicates 2% tolerance on the Zener voltage. Maximum power dissipation is 500mW with proper PCB thermal design.
