The MMSZ4689-E3-08 from onsemi is a 75 V Zener voltage regulator diode in a compact SOD-123 surface mount package with 500 mW power dissipation. The device provides +/-5% Zener voltage tolerance with 380 Ohm dynamic impedance at 0.5 mA test current. The extremely low 0.1 uA reverse leakage at 57 V makes it suitable for low-current voltage reference and bias applications. The SOD-123 package offers a significantly smaller footprint than traditional SOD-80/MiniMELF packages while maintaining adequate power handling.

The MMSZ4689-E3-08 operates in the reverse breakdown region as a Zener voltage regulator. At 75 V, the breakdown mechanism is primarily avalanche multiplication. When the reverse-biased voltage exceeds 75 V, the diode enters the breakdown region where current increases sharply while maintaining a nearly constant voltage. The 380 Ohm dynamic impedance determines voltage regulation quality: a 1 mA change in operating current produces a 380 mV change in Zener voltage. In forward bias, the device acts as a standard silicon diode with approximately 0.7 V forward voltage at 10 mA. The 500 mW power rating is achievable due to the SOD-123 package design with thermal resistance of approximately 250 K/W from junction to ambient.
