The MIC29152WU-TR from Microchip is a 1.5A adjustable LDO regulator in TO-247-5 (D2PAK-5). Features ultra-low 350mV dropout at 1.5A, 2.25-26V input range, and 1.25-25V adjustable output. Excellent line regulation (0.02%/V) and >70dB PSRR. Part of the MIC29150/29300/29500 family (1.5A/3A/7.5A variants). WU suffix denotes TO-247-5 SMD package, TR suffix denotes tape-and-reel. Ideal for post-regulation of switching supplies and high-current LDO applications.

The MIC29152 uses a PNP pass transistor in a common-emitter configuration, which allows the dropout voltage to be as low as VCE(sat) of the PNP transistor (350mV at 1.5A). This is significantly lower than NPN-based LDO regulators which require at least VBE + VCE(sat) (>1.5V dropout). The output voltage is set by an external resistor divider from VOUT to the ADJ pin, where the internal reference voltage is 1.235V. The error amplifier compares the ADJ pin voltage against the reference and drives the PNP pass transistor accordingly. The MIC29152 is part of the ‘Super LDO’ family that does not use foldback current limiting, ensuring full output current delivery even under fault conditions. The device is stable with low-ESR ceramic output capacitors (10µF minimum).
