The MCP1826S-3302E/DB from Microchip Technology is a 1A low-dropout linear regulator providing a fixed 3.3V output from a 2.3V to 6V input. With a typical dropout voltage of just 250 mV at full 1A load and 120 uA quiescent current, it delivers efficient regulation for battery-powered and automotive applications. The device is stable with only a 1 uF ceramic output capacitor, minimizing board space and BOM cost. CMOS construction ensures low ground current. AEC-Q100 qualification enables use in automotive electronic control units. The SOT-223-3 package provides excellent thermal dissipation in a compact footprint.

The MCP1826S-3302E/DB uses a PMOS pass transistor in a linear regulator topology. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage against an internal bandgap reference, adjusting the PMOS gate voltage to maintain regulation. The low dropout voltage is achieved because the PMOS transistor does not require significant headroom between input and output. The 120 uA quiescent current powers the error amplifier, reference, and protection circuits. Short-circuit current limiting reduces output current to a safe level during fault conditions. Thermal shutdown disables the output when die temperature exceeds the threshold.
