The LTC4366ITS8-2#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a floating surge stopper that protects loads from high voltage transients by controlling an external N-channel MOSFET in series with the power path. The floating topology allows the device to operate with supply voltages far exceeding its own absolute maximum ratings, up to 250V with an appropriately rated external MOSFET. When the input voltage exceeds the adjustable overvoltage threshold, the LTC4366 pulls down the MOSFET gate with 60mA, rapidly disconnecting the load. Adjustable undervoltage lockout prevents operation below the minimum supply. The -2 variant provides automatic retry after faults clear. The device consumes only 7uA in shutdown mode, making it suitable for always-connected battery systems.

The LTC4366ITS8-2#TRPBF operates as a floating surge voltage protector using an external N-channel MOSFET. Key subsystems include: (1) Floating Topology – the device floats on the output side of the external MOSFET, powered through the OUT pin, allowing operation at very high input voltages; (2) Gate Driver – a 10uA current source pulls the MOSFET gate up slowly for controlled turn-on, while a 60mA pull-down provides rapid disconnect during surges; (3) Overvoltage Comparator – monitors the input voltage via an external divider and pulls the gate low when the threshold is exceeded; (4) Undervoltage Lockout – prevents MOSFET turn-on when the supply is below the minimum threshold; (5) Current Limit – monitors the voltage across a sense resistor and limits the MOSFET gate drive during overcurrent conditions; (6) Timer – the -2 variant includes an automatic retry timer that re-attempts connection after a fault.
