The LTC3414EFE#PBF from Analog Devices is a high-efficiency monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter utilizing a constant-frequency current-mode architecture. It operates from 2.25 V to 5.5 V input and provides a regulated output from 0.8 V to 5 V at up to 4 A. The internal 67 mOhm synchronous power switch eliminates the need for an external Schottky diode, increasing efficiency. Switching frequency is programmable from 300 kHz to 4 MHz via an external resistor and can be synchronized to an external clock. The device supports Burst Mode operation with adjustable burst clamp for high efficiency at light loads, or forced continuous operation for reduced noise. OPTI-LOOP compensation optimizes transient response across a wide range of loads and output capacitors.

The LTC3414EFE#PBF uses a constant-frequency current-mode control architecture. An internal oscillator sets the switching frequency (300 kHz to 4 MHz) based on the external RT resistor. The top and bottom internal MOSFET switches (67 mOhm combined) alternate to step down the input voltage. Current-mode control simplifies loop compensation and provides inherent current limiting. In Burst Mode, the device delivers energy in controlled bursts and enters sleep mode between bursts, reducing gate charge losses at light loads. The burst clamp level is set via the SYNC/MODE pin voltage, allowing the user to trade off between output ripple and efficiency. In forced continuous mode, the device switches continuously regardless of load, reducing output ripple and noise. The 100% duty cycle mode enables low dropout operation by keeping the top switch on continuously.
