The LT1782CS5#TRPBF from Analog Devices is a micropower Over-The-Top rail-to-rail input and output operational amplifier in a 5-lead TSOT-23 package. Its unique Over-The-Top architecture allows either or both inputs to operate above the positive supply rail, handling up to 18 V common-mode voltage independent of the 2.5 V to 18 V supply range. This makes it invaluable for high-side current sensing, battery monitoring, and 4-20 mA loop applications. The amplifier draws only 45 µA typical quiescent current and features reverse battery protection. The input stage incorporates phase reversal protection, and the output can drive loads up to 18 mA while maintaining rail-to-rail capability.

The LT1782CS5#TRPBF uses a unique Over-The-Top input stage architecture that allows the input common-mode voltage to exceed the positive supply rail. The input stage uses PNP differential pairs with special biasing that references to the negative supply rail rather than the positive supply. When inputs are below V+, conventional PNP operation occurs. When inputs exceed V+, the Over-The-Top circuitry activates, using an auxiliary current path to maintain amplifier functionality. The output stage uses a complementary NPN/PNP push-pull configuration for rail-to-rail output swing. The 200 kHz gain-bandwidth product and 0.07 V/µs slew rate reflect the low 45 µA total supply current budget. Reverse battery protection uses internal diodes that block current flow when supply polarity is reversed.
