The LMR23630AFDDA is a 3.5A synchronous step-down converter from Texas Instruments featuring a wide 4V-36V input range, making it ideal for automotive and industrial applications powered from 12V or 24V buses. The device offers selectable switching frequencies of 400kHz or 2.2MHz, allowing designers to optimize for either efficiency or solution size. With 25µA quiescent current and integrated 85mΩ/55mΩ MOSFETs, it achieves up to 92% efficiency while maintaining excellent light-load performance.

The LMR23630AFDDA uses peak current mode control with a fixed-frequency oscillator. The error amplifier compares a fraction of the output voltage with the internal reference, generating a control voltage that sets the peak inductor current. The high-side N-channel MOSFET is turned on at the clock edge and turned off when the peak current threshold is reached, while the low-side MOSFET conducts during the off-time. In light-load conditions, the device enters PFM mode, skipping pulses to reduce switching losses and maintain high efficiency. The integrated slope compensation prevents sub-harmonic oscillation at duty cycles above 50%.
