The LM5069MMX-2/NOPB is a positive hot-swap controller from TI in VSSOP-10, designed for -48V telecom systems (9-80V input range, -2 version). It controls an external N-channel MOSFET to manage hot insertion of circuit boards into live backplanes. During hot insertion, the inrush current caused by charging bulk capacitors can damage connectors and cause voltage droops on the backplane. The LM5069 controls this by: 1) Gate drive ramp: The GATE pin drives the MOSFET gate with a controlled 12uA current source, causing the MOSFET to operate in linear mode during turn-on, limiting inrush current to the value set by the sense resistor; 2) Current limiting: The SNS pin monitors voltage across an external sense resistor; if it exceeds 50mV (current limit threshold), the gate drive is reduced to maintain constant current; 3) Power limiting: The TIMER pin sets the maximum time the MOSFET can operate in current-limit mode before fault shutdown; 4) UVLO/OVP: The UVLO and OVP pins set the valid input voltage window using external resistor dividers. If input voltage is outside this window, the MOSFET is turned off. The -2 version supports up to 80V, suitable for -48V telecom systems with 75V transient withstand.
