The KSZ8863MLL from Microchip Technology is a highly integrated 3-port 10/100 managed Ethernet switch with two 10/100BASE-T/TX PHYs and one MII host interface. It provides advanced Layer 2 switching features including IEEE 802.1q VLAN (up to 16 groups), 802.1p/DiffServ QoS with four priority levels, IGMP snooping, and broadcast storm protection. The 1K MAC address lookup table with store-and-forward architecture ensures non-blocking wire-speed switching. Advanced power management includes energy-detect mode, per-port software power down, and a unique bypass mode that maintains switching between the two PHY ports even when the connected CPU is in sleep mode.

The KSZ8863MLL integrates three MAC controllers and two 10/100 PHY transceivers. Port 1 and Port 2 connect to external RJ-45 jacks through the integrated PHYs, while Port 3 provides an MII interface to an external CPU. The switch fabric uses a store-and-forward architecture: incoming packets are fully received and validated before being forwarded. The 1K MAC address table is learned dynamically and supports static entries. VLAN tagging follows IEEE 802.1q with per-port tag insertion/removal on egress. QoS classification uses port-based default priority, 802.1p priority field, and DiffServ/TOS field in the IP header, each mappable to one of four priority queues per port. The tail tag feature appends a 1-byte tag to packets forwarded to the CPU port, indicating the ingress port number and packet priority.
