The IRS2005SPBF from Infineon Technologies is a high-voltage half-bridge gate driver IC in an 8-pin SOIC package. The S suffix denotes SOIC-8 package and PBF denotes lead-free RoHS-compliant packaging. Based on Infineon’s proprietary HVIC and latch-immune CMOS technology, it provides independent high-side and low-side gate drive outputs for N-channel MOSFETs or IGBTs. The floating high-side channel operates up to 200V offset voltage using bootstrap power supply technique. The logic inputs are compatible with 3.3V, 5V, or 15V CMOS/LSTTL outputs. With 290mA source and 600mA sink current capability, the IRS2005SPBF can drive medium-power MOSFETs directly. The matched propagation delays (50ns maximum mismatch) simplify use in high-frequency PWM applications.

The IRS2005 operates through four subsystems: (1) Logic Interface: Two non-inverting logic inputs (HIN, LIN) control the high-side (HO) and low-side (LO) outputs respectively. The inputs are compatible with 3.3V logic (VIH=2.5V min, VIL=0.8V max) and include 300ns minimum input pulse filter to reject noise. (2) Low-Side Driver: A direct-coupled output stage drives the low-side MOSFET gate between VCC (source) and COM (sink). The 290mA source and 600mA sink capability provides fast switching of medium-power MOSFETs with moderate gate charge. (3) High-Side Driver and Level Shifter: A level-shifting circuit translates the logic input to the floating high-side output referenced to VS. The bootstrap technique (external diode and capacitor between VB and VS) provides the floating supply for the high-side driver. The high-side driver can operate with VS swinging from -8V to +200V relative to COM. (4) Protection: UVLO circuits on both VCC (low-side) and VBS (high-side) supplies prevent operation when the supply voltage is below the 8.9V typical threshold, ensuring the driven MOSFETs are not partially enhanced.
