The HDC2010YPAR is a Texas Instruments integrated capacitive humidity and temperature sensor in an ultra-compact 6-ball WLCSP (1.5×1.5mm) package. The +/-2% RH humidity accuracy and +/-0.2C temperature accuracy provide reliable environmental monitoring for HVAC, weather stations, and consumer appliances. The capacitive sensing element measures humidity by detecting the dielectric constant change of a polymer film that absorbs water vapor proportional to relative humidity. A separate silicon temperature sensor provides the temperature reading required for humidity compensation and standalone temperature measurement. The I2C digital interface eliminates analog signal conditioning, providing direct 14-bit humidity and 14-bit temperature output values. The 1.62V to 3.6V supply range supports 1.8V and 3.3V systems. The 1.6uA average current at 1Hz measurement rate enables long battery life in portable and wearable devices. The device features programmable measurement resolution and rate, with auto-measurement mode for periodic autonomous sensing. The YPAR suffix indicates WLCSP-6 tape-and-reel packaging. Packaged in 6-ball WLCSP rated for -40C to +85C.

The HDC2010 uses a capacitive humidity sensing element consisting of a polymer film between two electrodes. The polymer absorbs or desorbs water vapor from the surrounding air, changing its dielectric constant proportionally to relative humidity. An internal capacitance-to-digital converter (C2D) measures the sensing element capacitance and converts it to a 14-bit digital value. A separate bandgap temperature sensor measures the ambient temperature with 14-bit resolution. The humidity reading is compensated for temperature effects using factory-calibrated coefficients stored in on-chip OTP memory. In auto-measurement mode, the device periodically wakes from sleep, performs a humidity and temperature measurement, stores the results in data registers, and returns to sleep, all without host intervention. The DRDY pin (or interrupt) signals when new data is available. The I2C interface reads the humidity and temperature registers, with the humidity value in 0.01% RH LSB and temperature in 0.01C LSB steps.
