The DT-26 32.768KHZ operates as a tuning fork quartz crystal using the X-Y flexural vibration mode of a bar-shaped quartz element. Unlike AT-cut crystals that use thickness shear mode for MHz frequencies, tuning fork crystals use a cantilever flexural mode where two tines vibrate in opposite directions, producing the 32.768 kHz frequency. The NT-cut orientation produces a parabolic frequency-temperature curve described by Δf = TC × (TA – TTP)² ppm, where TC is approximately -0.04 ppm/°C² and TTP (turnover temperature) is 25°C. The very low drive level of 1 µW maximum is critical because excessive drive power can fracture the thin tuning fork tines.
