The DS1314E+TR from Analog Devices (Maxim) is a 3V nonvolatile SRAM controller with integrated lithium battery monitoring. It intercepts the SRAM interface, providing unconditional write protection when VCC drops out of tolerance, and automatically switches to battery backup. The battery monitor provides early warning of battery end-of-life via the BW pin. The TR suffix indicates tape-and-reel packaging for automated assembly.

The DS1314E sits between the processor and SRAM. When VCC is within tolerance, it passes chip-enable and data signals transparently. When VCC drops below the threshold (set by TOL pin), the controller: (1) blocks chip-enable to write-protect SRAM, (2) switches SRAM power from VCC to battery, and (3) asserts RST output to hold the processor in reset. The battery monitor periodically checks battery voltage and asserts BW if below threshold.
