The CP2102N-A01-GQFN28 is a Silicon Labs USB-to-UART bridge controller in a 28-pin QFN package, providing a complete USB 2.0 full-speed to RS-232/UART conversion solution without firmware development. The integrated USB transceiver eliminates external pull-up resistors, and the on-chip 48MHz oscillator eliminates the external crystal required by the original CP2102. The 1KB one-time programmable (OTP) memory allows customization of USB Vendor ID (VID), Product ID (PID), product description strings, and serial number for OEM branding and device identification. The UART supports baud rates from 300bps to 3Mbps with +/-1% accuracy across the range. Four configurable GPIO pins provide flexible control signals such as RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR, or custom handshaking. USB Battery Charger Detection (BCS 1.2) enables charging current negotiation when connected to USB host or charger ports. Remote wakeup capability allows the device to wake a suspended USB host. The 9.5mA operating current and sub-1uA USB suspend current support battery-powered applications. Royalty-free virtual COM port (VCP) drivers are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Packaged in QFN-28 rated for -40C to +85C.

The CP2102N integrates a USB 2.0 full-speed device controller, UART interface, and bridge logic in a single chip. The USB controller handles all USB protocol layers including device enumeration, endpoint management, and data transfer according to the Communication Device Class (CDC) Abstract Control Model (ACM) specification. The host operating system VCP driver creates a virtual COM port that applications access using standard serial API calls. The bridge logic transfers data between the USB bulk endpoints and the UART FIFOs, handling data format conversion (USB packet to UART frame) and flow control (RTS/CTS, DTR/DSR). The integrated 48MHz oscillator uses a precision RC oscillator calibrated at the factory, meeting USB full-speed clock tolerance requirements without an external crystal. The OTP memory stores USB descriptors (VID, PID, strings) that are read during USB enumeration. The GPIO pins are configured through OTP or runtime register access, mapping to UART modem control lines or general-purpose I/O. The voltage regulator accepts 5V VBUS and generates the internal 3.3V supply, with the VREGIN pin accepting 3.0-3.6V external supply.
