The AT91SAM7S256D-MU from Microchip (formerly Atmel) is a 32-bit ARM7TDMI-based microcontroller operating at up to 55 MHz with 27 MIPS throughput. The device integrates 256 KB Flash, 64 KB SRAM, and a rich peripheral set including USB 2.0 full-speed device, two USARTs, SPI, TWI (I2C), SSC, 8-channel 10-bit ADC, 4-channel PWM, and three 16-bit timer/counters. The Peripheral DMA Controller (PDC) with 11 channels offloads the CPU from data transfer tasks. An internal 1.8V voltage regulator allows the device to operate from a single 3.3V supply, generating the core voltage internally. The -MU suffix indicates QFN-64 package with matte tin finish. The AT91SAM7S256D-MU uses the ARM7TDMI core, a 3-stage pipeline (fetch, decode, execute) processor supporting both 32-bit ARM and 16-bit Thumb instruction sets.
