The AT45DB321E-SHF2B-T from Adesto Technologies is a 32-Mbit DataFlash serial NOR Flash memory in an 8-pin SOIC package. The SHF2B suffix denotes the SOIC-8 package with dual-SPI (2-I/O) capability and tape and reel packaging. Unlike standard SPI Flash with 256-byte pages, the DataFlash architecture uses 528-byte pages (512 data + 16 spare) with two built-in 528-byte SRAM buffers. This allows simultaneous buffer read/write operations while the Flash array is being programmed, enabling seamless data streaming for logging applications. The dual-SPI interface doubles read throughput to 132Mbps at 66MHz clock.

The AT45DB321E operates through four subsystems: (1) Dual SRAM Buffers: Two independent 528-byte buffers allow data to be written into one buffer while the other is being transferred to the Flash array, enabling continuous data streaming without wait states. Buffer-to-Flash transfer takes 3.5ms typical. (2) SPI Command Interface: A standard SPI bus with extended command set supports single and dual-SPI modes. In dual-SPI mode, SI and SO pins are repurposed as I/O0 and I/O1 for 2-bit wide transfers. (3) Page Architecture: The memory is organized as 8192 pages of 528 bytes each (512 data + 16 extra bytes for ECC or metadata). Sector and block erase provide flexible erase granularity. (4) Protection: Software write protection via sector lockdown, and hardware write protect via WP pin. Deep power-down mode reduces current to 5uA.
