The ADuM5000ARWZ from Analog Devices is a 500 mW isolated DC-DC converter using iCoupler technology with an integrated chip-scale transformer. Providing 2500 Vrms isolation and selectable 3.3V or 5V output from a 3.15-5.5V input at up to 90% efficiency, it eliminates the need for external transformers in isolated power designs for ADCs, DACs, interface ICs, and sensor interfaces, all in a standard SOIC-16W package.

The ADuM5000ARWZ integrates a microscale on-chip transformer fabricated using Analog Devices’ iCoupler technology. An internal 180 MHz oscillator drives the primary side of the transformer, creating a high-frequency AC signal. The transformer magnetically couples power across the isolation barrier to the secondary side, where rectification and regulation produce a stable DC output. The RC (Regulation Control) pin selects between 3.3V and 5V output voltage. Internal feedback from the isolated side to the primary side controls the oscillator drive to maintain output regulation. The chip-scale transformer provides 2500 Vrms isolation while maintaining efficient power transfer up to 90%. Overtemperature and short-circuit protection ensure safe operation under fault conditions.
